Would it be possible to get hired as a guide in a museum or gallery without it being volunteer work?

In the meantime I am learning different languages before I move to Italy. Becoming a local tour guide seems interesting but also seems complicated and actually quite difficult to obtain a license. This is why I'd like to know if there are similar jobs related to a specific field such as the art industry. I thought of working in a museum or in an art gallery as a guide. However, here in Canada these are volunteer jobs only (unless you're a sales person) How about in Italy? Is it any different? ...any other suggestions which are not related to museums or galleries?
